Expansion to Full Capacity Goes into Completion: Chinese-German Exhibition Centre Project (SNIEC)Breaks New Ground
SNIEC is jointly owned by German Exposition Corp., a joint subsidiary of Deutsche Messe AG, Messe Duesseldorf GmbH and Messe Muenchen GmbH, and Shanghai Lujiazui Exhibition Development Co.,Ltd. As the construction project of phases 9-12 consisting of halls N1, N2, N3 and N4 has been finished, The expansion of the Chinese-German exhibition Centre project, Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) to full capacity goes into completion on February 15th, 2012.
Since its opening on November 2nd, 2001, according to the rising market demands, the SNIEC project was developed from the initial 4 halls over 12 phases into 17 halls complex with a total investment of RMB4,405,800,000. The fully completed venue offers 17 column-free, ground-level exhibition halls, covering 200,000 sqm of indoor space and 100000 sqm of outdoor space. The main affiliated facilities include 3 entrance halls, 20 loading bays, 2 multilayer parking garages multilayer and 5 large open style outdoor parking lots (providing 4730 parking space in total). It is the functionality of SNIEC through its design which makes SNIEC different from other exhibition centers in China so far. The concept of SNIEC has been well received by the international exhibition industry.
Since its opening, SNIEC has made a rapid development with annually welcoming more than 4 million guests and around 80 world-class exhibitions. The unprecedented success of SNIEC evidences the role, the exhibition industry plays in the breathtaking economic development of Chinaand East Asia. As a platform for significant international trade fairs, it serves to strengthen the bilateral economic relations between China and world, and stimulates and boosts the local economy by generating the demand for catering, entertainment, transportation, tourism, commerce etc.
SNIEC’s exhibition business in 2011 maintained a stable growth, with hosting over 90 shows and renting out a total of 4,800,000sqm. It is expected that there is a further increase in sold exhibition area in 2012. This year is the 40th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Chinaand German. It can be said that the exhibition industry is one of most successful cooperation areas for the two countries in the 40 years. SNIEC’s achievement stands for ten years of constructive cooperation between the Chinese and German partners resulting in creating Shanghai as the leading exhibition hub in China.
